Taylor's father left before she was born and her mother found life difficult enough without having to deal with a confused little girl with Asperger syndrome who 'always ruins everything'. Although academically very bright, Taylor didn't understand the social and emotional aspects of life. So she was grateful for the friendship offered to her by Tom, a neighbour and the father of two young children. She was 11 years old when Tom started coming to the house. When he moved away a few months later, she was easy prey to the gang of drug dealers and petty criminals who groomed and then abused her, using her as a form of currency to appease their debtors and amuse their friends.
