Provides everything you could want, or need to know about this spectacular up and coming southern Spanish destination
Spectacular coastal scenery, sleepy whitewashed villages, dramatic sierras
the Axarquía and Granadas Costal Tropical have it all...
So boasts the cover of this meticulously researched book by prizewinning travel writer David Baird whose earlier Back Roads of Southern Spain for Santana continues to elicit praise from Spains English-speaking visitors and residents alike.
In the space of five clearly structured sections East of Malaga treats a booming area that previously languished in the shadow of the western Costa del Sol and correspondingly suffered in the guidebook stakes. As a long-standing resident of the area himself the author vindicates this neglect and the result is a wealth of information on local history, rich traditions and memorable sights as well as advice on what to eat and where to stay all enlivened with colourful anecdotes.
Items of special interest include
The legacy of the Moors
The Montes de Málaga and the Contraviesa and Lecrín Valley
Outdoor activities in the Axarquía
Fiestas & wine and food
This long-awaited book fills an important gap in vital travel information about southern Spain.
